How to have a happy life is a sixty foot long scroll of handwritten text on gessoed craft paper. The text consists of a predetermined list of things, people, places, and events that have made me happy and continue to let me experience growth in my life. After combating heavy bouts of saddness this piece served as a form of therapy to write and out and appreciate what could bring joy to my life. Placed in front of a well used staircase I observed people not paying atention and stepping on the piece creating a growing metaphor about what people will do to, literally and figururatively, to get to their own happiness even if it means walking over mine.
